Pines on Steep mountains. Hanging scroll, Ink and light colors on paper. Inscription and signature by the artist: “Scenery without limit amidst steep mountains. Respectfully painted after a poem by Chairman Mao.” One seal of the artist: „Renzhi”. One collector’s seal: “Bote” (Poetter).

Zhang Renzhi is from Jixian in Hebei province. He is a well known landscape painter at the Peking Painting Academy (Beijing Huayuan). He graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (Zhongyang Meishu Xueyuan) in Peking and is active from the 1960s and 1970s until now. His paintings of majestic pines are especially well executed.
